Compressed air filter types classification

Filters are used to clean compressed air that comes out of an air compressor. These filters remove dirt, water, and oil to make the air clean. They usually go at the back of the compressor.

Based on how a job is done, we need to choose different types of accurate filters.


Precision filters are grouped by the types of filters they use and what they are made of.


There are four models of Betten high efficiency precision filters.


The S-class filter is like a pre-filter that removes bits of dust and dirt that are 3 micrometers or bigger. It also makes sure that there's only one part per million of oil mist.

The U-level filter takes out tiny bits of dirt bigger than 1μ and keeps the amount of oily mist low to 0.5 parts per million.

The H-level filter is like a strainer that takes out tiny bits of dirt that are 0.1 microns or bigger. It also helps keep the amount of oil mist in the air very low, at only 0.1 parts per million by weight.

The F-level filter takes out tiny pieces of dirt that are 0.01μ or bigger and controls the amount of oil mist in the air to 0.01ppm. It also removes ultra-small dust.

People usually use precision filters together with compressed air dryers. They put the filters in a certain order: three before one.

The compressed air dryer has three filters in the front called S, U, and H. These filters help the dryer work well and stay safe. They are also called security filters.

The F filter is put at the end of the dryer to filter out tiny bits of dust and make sure the air coming out is good quality.


This setup is good for businesses like food and medicine, electronics, and others that need really clean compressed air.


In a lot of basic production, you don't need to use a really fancy set-up.

Many people use the SUH filter and dryer for workshops where the air quality doesn't have to be perfect. This can be for cleaning surfaces with sandblasting.


There are many types of filters with different materials used for the filters.

The S-class filter is the first filter used. It has a stainless steel cartridge that is strong against pressure and damage. It protects the back-end filter and dryer.

The next three filters use a material called polymer filter material, which is made of glass fibers. It filters things more precisely and effectively than stainless steel filters, but it can't handle as much pressure.


The compressed air precision filter model is similar among different manufacturers. The materials used are also common. You just need to know the filtration precision you need to find the correct product.
